π Abhijeet's Take: Why did Apple wait 7 years after Samsung launched the first Fold? Because they were waiting for the "Crease Problem" to be solved. Apple doesn't do beta testing on customers. If they are launching now, it means the crease is invisible.
The "Invisible Hinge" Tech π οΈ
Samsung uses a "Waterdrop" hinge. Apple is using something called a "Memory Metal Spine."
According to patent filings, the hinge uses Nitinol (a shape-memory alloy). When you open the phone, the metal remembers its flat shape and pushes the screen up, eliminating the dip in the center.
Two Models Coming?
- iPhone 17 Flip: Clamshell style (like Galaxy Z Flip). Starts at $999.
- iPhone 17 Fold: Book style (like Galaxy Z Fold). Starts at $1,899.
Self-Healing "Ceramic Flex 2.0"
The biggest fear with foldables is scratches. Apple's new screen material supposedly has a "polymer layer" that can heal minor micro-scratches when exposed to heat (like sunlight or body heat in your pocket).

Will You Switch?
If you've been holding onto your iPhone 14 or 15 waiting for something "different"βthis is it. The slab phone era is officially boring. The Fold era is here.
Poll: Would you trust a foldable iPhone screen? Or is it asking for a $500 repair bill?
